The main purpose of our job as teachers is to prepare our young people for life after the 12th grade. In my computer classes, I believe that means teaching skills that could be used in any setting. Whether a student goes on to become a lawyer, an engineer, or a secretary, I want them to be a step ahead of other people when it comes to technology.

One skill that I feel would be beneficial in any profession is the ability to create a website that looks good and functions well. That’s just what our 10th graders have started on recently. They have been building their own websites. What program did they use to build websites? Well, none actually. They built them from scratch. That’s right, our 10th graders know how to build a website using html computer code. A basic one anyway. Take a look below.

Soon (if they ask real nice) they will be building professional websites using a program that will do most of the work for them. But hopefully having done it “the old fashioned way” will give them an appreciation and an understanding of the process that they wouldn’t have had otherwise.
