The children continually blow me away with their ability to absorb all the crazy different strategies I throw out at them. Although they know they don’t have to “master” each of them, they seem to love having new ways to figure out math problems. Math has become like going to P.E. with Coach. They have all become so competitive learning their multiplication facts. “Multiplication Around the World” continues to build in intensity. Dr. Mehaffey knows that I expect automaticity. He will impromptly walk in and yell a fact, and whatever they are doing they stop and shout out the product. (He did it over the intercom system once and they responded on cue….quite cute.)
We had so much fun during Thanksgiving researching why we celebrate. The information they gained was not only educational but also enjoyable to discuss. Now that Christmas is rapidly approaching we will be busy doing various activities along with the regular academic part of the day. We will have our Christmas program and go to the merry-go-round, along with others. This time of year is always challenging because we are all excited about Christmas but also must maintain academic growth. We will be researching the true Christmas story. I want them to understand the historical side of it. With that said, we will be studying the events that led up to the birth of Christ. After we wrap up Unit 3 in Math, I am going to spend the next couple of weeks with a cumulative review of the year thus far. Our main focus will be number stories with multiple step operations. The reading will continue status quo.
They all amaze me with how much they have grown academically. They are all each their own little sponge brain. Although they often  ask, “Mrs. Conway can we take a brain break?” Having them in my life is such a blessing. I thank the Lord for each of them. They all have such fascinatingly different souls. I love spending my days with them.
