Hello Everyone!
First grade has had a busy month during September. We have completed our first reading unit. We learned a lot about tame and wild animals. We are now wrapping up our habitat project. Everyone did well on the unit test. We also celebrated Johnny Appleseed’s birthday on September 26th. Did you know that his real name was John Chapman and he was a missionary? Mrs. Richardson read us a story about him. We watched a video about his life. Did you know he wore a pot on his head and traveled west helping farmers and planting apple seeds? We made pots to wear to the pep rally. We tasted three kinds of apples and chose our favorite. Also, we tried apple cider; nine of us really liked it but two of us said no way. If you have time come by and check out our graphs in the hall. Congratulations to Emily Sasser for being our top AR reader for August. There has been a lot of competition this month. We can’t wait to see who our winner is for September!
We are looking forward to October. In reading and social studies we will be learning about families and communities. Look for a family tree project in about two weeks. Also, we are planning a trip to the pumpkin patch  around Halloween.
Mrs. Hyde’s First Grade Class

Dear Parents,
Just a note to say thank you for allowing me to be your child’s teacher. I have a fantastic group of scholars who truly enjoy learning. They keep me on my toes! We have had to Google several questions to find the answers. Like, “Do elephants have hair?” I love their curiosity and willingness to try anything. I am looking forward to a wonderful time of learning for the rest of this year. Thanks for all you do to make sure your student is successful.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Hyde
