7th grade World Geography toured LaGrange’s Bible History Center on Tuesday. After a guided tour of the museum’s artifacts currently on loan from Israel, the kids headed into the dig pits to get a taste of hands-on archeology. When they finished up, “Mr. Brent”, a retired military chaplain (35 years of service) and our docent for the day, helped them draw conclusions from the clues they had unearthed. Turns out our digs were an Egyptian copper smelting site from around the time of the judges, and a purple seller’s home business/similar to what would have been found in Lydia’s household.
Next it was into the Gardens where we explored settings from a Bedouin style tent, where Abraham & Sarah would have felt at home, to a New Testament era village. We also had a little fun pushing that grinding wheel just like Samson.
It was a day full of learning for all of us, and it made the Bible really come alive.
Last stop was West Point Lake for a picnic lunch. Some wading to clean off our dusty feet and a romp on the playground rounded out the day. I do have to say that we have some A-1 rock skippers!
