As I told you all prior, I am super excited to be with your kiddos. They are all such a blessing. We all have adjusted well to each other and have had a wonderful kick off to the year. The kids really enjoyed the Tool Kit we did the first week. We read nonfiction texts and talked about each feature’s purpose. We discussed why meaning breaks down and learned new comprehension strategies. We are now into the Reading Street series. Other comprehension strategies we have learned are using our background knowledge and sequencing. We have talked about various genres such as realistic fiction, fantasy, and fables. We are focusing on becoming fluent readers by monitoring our pace, rhythm, and voice. We are writing summaries for fiction and nonfiction texts as well. The kids are doing great at learning to take notes, using graphic organizers, and writing analytically. They are using their journals to write and answer the essential questions. We have also learned vocabulary strategies, like using our context clues. We have started Everyday Math. It has tons and tons of great mathematical vocabulary and all of children are using their new words in their daily math discussions. I have revisited most of the areas they were exposed to last year. This week we began using different types of graphs to show data. This includes: line plots, bar graphs, and pictographs. We will be moving into all different kinds of number stories building on what they already know about addition and subtraction. Basically, they will read stories and apply different strategies to solve problems. I have seen major growth already in every single child, which makes my job more fun. We also have gotten our goals all set in AR. They are really doing well and are meeting their weekly goals. We have had a little bit of the “sickies.” Poor Abby was sick for over a week and we are so glad she is back. Kole and Morgan didn’t feel well one day and now Austin is feeling yucky too. Needless to say, Lysol and Germ X have become really good friends of mine. Malissa,Landon, and I have fared well so far. (Knock on wood) I look forward to the upcoming months and spending all the holidays with my school family and all of you. I know this weekend I will be kicking off Auburn football with Malissa where we will join the rest of the Auburn family at Jordan Hare Stadium…WAR EAGLE!
