Welcome back to Chambers Academy for the start of the 2013-14 school year. Our numbers are low but our spirits are high. The faculty is poised for an exciting year filled with great opportunity for growth and learning.
Please plan to attend our Foundation meeting tomorrow night at 6:00, in the lunchroom. This is always a wonderful evening of fellowship where we get a chance to meet our football players, cheerleaders, and staff members. We will be welcoming new faculty members this year, so come out to meet them.
Mrs. Cynthia Knowles will be teaching half days, primarily in science. She comes to us with a wide and varied resume and promises to be a great asset to our staff.
Mr. Hugh Bryan will be on campus at the end of the day and will teach drivers education. Coach has been a frequent substitute for us and is widely known and respected by our students.
Mr. Thomas Garrett will be teaching a variety of courses in math and science. Coach Garrett has many years experience in both public and private schools in our area. He is assisting with our football team and has already become a player favorite.
Coach Jason Allen is our “new old coach” returning to us after a brief departure. Coach Allen is a very widely respected young coach who is able to teach, control, and motivate his players. In addition to football, Coach Allen will head our boy’s basketball program and will teach PE.
Joining our staff as teacher and Assistant Headmaster is Mr. John Mehaffey. Chambers Academy is very fortunate to have found a person with Mr. Mehaffey’s skills and background. In addition to his teaching background, Mr. Mehaffey has served a brief tenure as Headmaster at Hooper Academy. Currently, Mr. Mehaffey is in the final stages of completing his Doctorate in Educational Leadership.
Congratulations to the following students who were grade level leaders in our summer reading program:
4th grade Natalie
5th grade Abbie
6th grade Joanne
7th grade Tate
A cash prize will be extended to all grade level winners and a larger prize to overall winner, Joann. We also commend the following students who took part in our summer program: Mattie, Cade, Maci, Peyton, and Audra.
A glimpse ahead:
Thursday, 8/15/13 Foundation Meeting, 6:00 in the lunchroom
Friday, 8/16/13 Magazine Drive Kick-off, elementary students at 8:00, high school at 8:53
Tuesday, 8/20/13 Chambers Academy will host the first ever volleyball match at 4:00, as we take on EMCA. Coach Black and her players have worked hard in pre-season practice, so come out and support our young ladies.
