Congratulations to the JV boys and girls basketball teams for the successful completion of their seasons. The girls team finished the season with an excellent 10-3 record, but despite their record and the fact that we were two year defending champions, we were not invited to the state AISA Invitational Tournament. Coach McGinty and Coach Matt Smith are commended for their leadership of our young leaders. This year’s team members were: Klancy, Baleigh, Jessica, Tori, Melissa, Anslee, Lizzie, Kristina, Kelsey, Tate, Jessica, and Hannah. Hannah, Anslee, and Baleigh have completed their JV eligibility, but a fine group of returning players bodes well for our ladies next year.
Our JV boys team struggled due to their lack of depth and experience. Coach Kevin Capps did an outstanding job of keeping spirits high and convincing our players they could compete against tremendous odds. We could call them our “Super Six”. They were: 6th grader Colton, 7th graders Reed, Brinson, and Blake, 8th grader Trent, and 9th grader Jamie. These young men earned the respect and admiration of all who saw them play. Not once did they back from teams dominated by all 8th and 9th graders. Way to go, guys!!
The varsity basketball season is also drawing to a close. The boys and girls begin regional tournament play on Thursday as the girls take on SMCA at 3:00pm and the boys battle Lakeside at 7:30pm. Both the boys and girls are playing well as they come off victories over cross-county rival Springwood on Monday. A victory on Thursday reassures teams of games Friday and Saturday and advancement to the Elite 8 at Huntingdon next week. Come on down to Ashford these next few days, and support our teams.
Miss Jane and the CA Drama Team are congratulated for their superior showing at the State Drama Competition at Faulkner University last Friday. Three CA students were named to the All-State cast: Skye, Savannah, and Autumn (all Seniors). The musical piece performed by Skye and Autumn placed second in the state in the musical category and Autumn received the highest honor of the competition as she was named “Best Actress.” Congratulations to all who participated in the drama competition.
Parents: a very important time in the future of our school is approaching. All parents and CA family members are urged to join us as we put forth our best effort to identify and recruit potential new students. We can only maintain current tuition levels and course offerings with an increase in student population. We are planning an “Open House” event on Thursday, February 28, in order to allow potential students and parents to visit our school and meet our teachers. Please invite any families you believe to be prospects to join us that evening. More specifics will be announced in the Rebel News next week.
We are also asking all CA family members to block off May 11 for our annual Extravaganza. This year we plan to add a giant alumni fun day. We will be contacting all CA alumni and inviting them to our afternoon of fun followed by our annual Extravaganza. Continue to check the Rebel News as this event is finalized.
